Welcome to Waystones — A Smarter Way to Travel

Hey everyone — we're rolling out Waystones, a new travel system that replaces /home, /warp, /spawn, /tpa, /back, and /grave tp. It's built around physical, placeable beacons you'll find scattered through the world: discover one by walking past it, right-click any of them to open your warp menu, and place a Waystone block of your own to make a permanent destination. Less typing, more exploring, and no more memorizing eight different command aliases.

This post walks through everything you can do with it — the items, how they craft, and the migration shortcuts we've built so nobody loses their bases.

The Waystone

The headline feature. Waystones are placeable beacons that act as travel nodes in your world. Right-click any one you've found and you'll see your unified warp menu: Homes, Favourites, Spawn, Server Locations, Player Locations, and Resource Worlds — everything in one screen.

When you place a fresh Waystone you'll be prompted to pick:

  • Name — what shows up in the menu
  • Type — Common (visible to all), Personal (you + whitelisted friends), Home (private), or Admin (staff only)
  • Colour — black, blue, green, purple, white… whichever variant fits the build
  • Requires Discovery — if on, others must walk past or right-click this stone before it shows up in their menu; if off, it's public the moment it's placed

Already placed and want to change something? Right-click your own Waystone and hit Edit Waystone to rename, recolour, toggle discovery, set a Coins toll, or pin it to your favourites.

Recipe: four Lodestone in the corners, four Ender Pearls on the edges, and a Warpstone in the centre. The result is the inert (uncoloured) Waystone — the colour gets picked from the placement dialog, so you only ever need to craft this one recipe.

The Warpstone

A small purple stone. Right-click to open the warp menu from anywhere — no Waystone required. Single use, consumed on a successful teleport. It also doubles as the crafting ingredient for the Waystone above.

Recipe: an Ender Pearl in the centre with an Amethyst Shard on each of the four sides.

Wayfinder Tome — bind & teleport

A brown leather tome you bind to a specific Waystone, then carry around as a one-shot return ticket. Sneak + right-click a Waystone to bind the tome to it, then right-click anywhere afterwards to confirm and teleport back; the tome is consumed on confirm. The item name updates with the bound destination, handy if you carry several for different bases.

Recipe: four Paper in the corners, four Feathers on the edges, and an Amethyst Shard in the centre.

Recall Crystal — undo the last warp

A glowing crystal that snaps you back to wherever you stood right before your last Waystone teleport. Forgot something at home? Crystal. Mistapped a Server Location? Crystal. Single use.

Recipe: an Amethyst Shard in the centre with a Redstone on each of the four sides.

Death's Reach — recover your stuff

A red wither-skull helmet. Right-click to teleport to your most recent death location. It plays well with AxGraves: if a grave still exists, that's where you go. If there's no active grave, the item isn't consumed — you'll get a chat message instead, so there's no risk of wasting it on a bad guess.

Recipe: four Bones in the corners, four Wither Skeleton Skulls on the edges, and an Amethyst Shard in the centre.

Ender Link — player-to-player teleport

The replacement for /tpa and /tpahere. Right-click to open a menu of online players, pick someone, and choose Teleport To Player (you go to them) or Summon Player Here (they come to you, with consent). The target sees a confirm dialog with accept/deny and a 60-second timeout. Requests don't pierce combat tags or opt-outs, and Settings → Player TP lets anyone toggle whether they receive requests at all.

Enchanted variants

Two upgrade paths exist for the heavy-use crowd, both anvil-only crafts with no recipe-book entries:

  • Enchanted Warpstone = Warpstone + Tome of Eternal Passage. 50 uses with a vanilla durability bar; right-click for the warp menu, durability ticks down per teleport; anvil-repair with a Nether Star.
  • Enchanted Ender Link = Ender Link + Tome of Eternal Passage. The same deal but for player-to-player teleports.

The Tome of Eternal Passage is sold by Expert+ Librarian villagers for one Nether Star.

Waystone Compass

A vanilla compass with a CobbleStones twist — it points to your last visited Waystone, so you can navigate back overland if you'd rather not spend XP.

Recipe: a Compass in the centre, Redstone above and to each side, and an Amethyst Shard below.

Migration: what happened to my old homes?

If you had /home entries on the previous CMI-based system, they don't disappear. Open any Waystone menu and look for Old Homes — a temporary section listing each of your CMI homes with 3 free uses remaining before the entry is permanently removed. Use those three warps to physically travel to each base, drop a real Waystone, and you've migrated. Once every old home is exhausted, the section auto-hides for you.

The deprecated commands now show a short notice explaining the new system instead of executing:

/home /warp /spawn /tpa
/back /lands spawn /grave tp

On XP costs

Teleports cost a small amount of XP based on distance. The math is in XP points, not whole levels — short hops cost almost nothing, cross-world jumps cost a flat ~125 XP, and a 5,500-block trip is around 175 XP (about 3 levels at level 30, or 1.5 at level 50). It's tuned so a working player rarely notices the cost. Some destinations are free regardless: spawn waystones, and (when configured) admin server locations. Staff can be exempted entirely via permission.

TL;DR

  • Right-click any Waystone → open the warp menu.
  • Place a Waystone → permanent destination; pick the colour and type.
  • Use a Warpstone, Player Warpstone, or any of the bonus items for off-grid travel.
  • Wayfinder Tome remembers a single destination; Recall Crystal undoes your last teleport; Death's Reach grabs your grave; Ender Link replaces /tpa without typing.
  • All your old /home entries get a graceful exit window via the Old Homes menu.

Welcome to Waystones. See you out in the world.
