Hey everyone! A little while back we quietly rolled out a chest‑safety warning — that heads‑up you get when you open a container someone else placed. Now that the community's had a couple of days to live with it and tell us what felt off, we're bringing in a round of refinements — and while we were at it, we grew the whole thing into a proper player companion system (named, fittingly, Companion).
This post is a full overview for anyone who missed the original drop, plus everything that changed today. If you already know the basics, skip down to What's new today.
The idea, in one line
EverHaven has no land‑claim system — we run on trust. But trust works best with a gentle nudge, so when you open a chest, barrel, furnace, or any container that belongs to another player, Companion gives you a quick heads‑up about whose it is and whether it looks abandoned. No locks, no regions — just a "hey, this isn't yours, be thoughtful" reminder.
It works on every container type: chests, barrels, hoppers, droppers, dispensers, furnaces, smokers, blast furnaces, brewing stands, shulker boxes — the lot.
Ranks: New → Fledgling → Mature
How much of a reminder you get depends on how long you've been around. Everyone moves through three (hidden) ranks automatically:
- New — your first 45 minutes, before you've accepted the rules. You're invincible, and you can't open or break other players' things yet.
- Fledgling — you've graduated, but you're still learning the ropes (under 3 hours of playtime). When you open someone else's container you get the full heads‑up, so the etiquette really sinks in.
- Mature — 3+ hours in. You know the deal, so we get out of your way: just a single, tidy one‑line notice instead of the wall of text.
You never have to do anything to rank up — it just happens as you play.
What's new today
1. Cleaner, clearer warnings
The original message was a bit of a wall, and — full honesty — the dates were rendering as nonsense like +58507-03-20. Both fixed. Here's the new Fledgling warning:
⚠ This chest belongs to RedZephon, not you. Be careful about taking items that aren't yours. Last touched July 1, 2026 · owner last seen July 14, 2026. This chest looks abandoned — probably safe to loot. If unsure, ask RedZephon or a Server Volunteer first before looting.
Dates now read like actual dates, the "safe to loot / please don't" call is combined into one clear line, and we no longer count your own peek at the chest as the "last touched" time (which used to make everything say "today"). We also double‑check the block history so that if someone breaks a chest and a new player puts one in the same spot, you see the current owner — not a ghost from months ago.
And once you've been a member for a few hours, you graduate to the Mature one‑liner:
⚠ chest owned by RedZephon · last touched July 1, 2026
2. Share your chests with /allow
Want your buddy to be able to raid your storage room without getting the warning every time? Now you can:
- /allow — pops up a menu to pick players (with a search box for offline friends), then just punch the chests you want to share and run
/allow done. Those players get the friendly one‑line notice instead of the full warning on those containers. - /allowall — same picker, but shares all your containers at once, including ones you place later.
- /allow list — see who you've shared everything with.
- /unallow <player> — take it all back.
(We call it "allow" rather than "claim" or "trust" on purpose — nothing is locked, you're just turning down the warnings for people you trust.)
3. Parties
Rolling with a crew? Start a party and your whole group is automatically allowed into each other's containers — no /allow needed between members.
- /party — open your party overview: everyone's name, rank, level, and playtime, with buttons to invite or leave.
- /party create [name] — start one.
- /party invite [player] — invite by name, or open a picker to invite a few at once. Invitees get a clickable [Accept] / [Deny].
- /party leave, /party kick, /party promote, /party rename, /party disband, /party list — the usual crew management.
4. Waystone "come along"
This one ties into the Waystone travel system. When a party member uses a waystone and you're standing nearby (within about a chunk), you'll get a little prompt:
RedZephon is teleporting to Spawn. You're in a party with them — come along? [✔ Come along] [✖ Stay here]
Hit Come along and you're whisked to the same waystone — no chasing, no "wait, where'd everyone go?" It costs you the normal teleport XP, same as if you'd used the waystone yourself. Perfect for keeping a group together on the move.
Quick reference
/allow— pick players, then punch chests to share them/allowall— share all your containers with chosen players/allow list— see who you've shared everything with/unallow <player>— remove a player's access to your containers/party— open your party overview/party create [name]— start a party/party invite [player]— invite someone (or open the picker)/party accept//party deny— respond to an invite/party leave//party disband— leave or wind down the party
A note on being neighbourly
None of this locks anything down — EverHaven is still a trust server, and that's on purpose. The warnings exist to make "is this okay to take?" an easy question to answer, not to police you. When in doubt, the message says it best: ask RedZephon or a Server Volunteer first. Play nice, respect what others have built, and enjoy the server. 💛
